By helping your users get the most out of your account, you in turn reap the rewards of happier and more productive users. The first thing to consider is what privilege level a user should have (user levels affect available functions and capabilities):
Here are some helpful tips to better manage the users in your hosting account:
- Users can modify their own profiles, and can have minimal access to the Web files.
- User Administrators have control over all user accounts, can reset passwords, and enable some billable features for users.
- Domain Administrators control both users and the domain settings, and enable and disable various options in the account.
- Master Administrator has all of the above privileges as well as control over billing and payment information.
Do your users forget their password from time to time?
Something we all do at one time or another is forgetting a password. If your users forget their password, have them contact one of your administrators first before calling Customer Care. Since your administrators have direct access to reset passwords via the online account management Gateway, they can get users back to work much faster (and forcing users to pick a new password is a good security practice.)
Are your users getting lots of spam?
If you are plagued by spam like the rest of us, consider enabling premium mail filtering. This feature, along with other handy functionality, allows users to train junk mail filters as to what is and is not spam. And don’t forget to enable free virus filtering for your users. There are controls to apply these types of changes to all users in your account in the account management Gateway.
Would it help if your users could update site content?
If you are using Web Builder, all you have to do is grant users write access to the Web directory and they can publish changes. Or, if you want to share documents in your file space, grant your users read and/or write access to your files directory, and enable Net Drive for your account. Then everyone can drag and drop files to/from their desktop from/to the server seamlessly.
